  • When returning from an absence, have admit slip from office and check for make up work (before 8:20 am if possible)

Syllabus for World Geography

  
   We will study the countries of the western hemisphere (North America, South America, Central America and islands of the Caribbean.  We evaluate the cultures in terms of government, economy, religion, recreation and world influence.  We also look at the physical aspects (natural resources, climate, land features and water features) to determine how a culture's standard of living compares to the people of the United States.
     The Atlas program consists of studying physical maps, political maps, thematic maps, charts and graphs, map keys and map projections.

Syllabus for American History 8th Grade
    
     We begin with reviewing the English colonies (1600's) and the influence the Spanish, French, English and Native Americans had on each other in the 1600's, the 1700's and the 1800's.  We cover three wars (the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, the war with Mexico, andthe Civil War.  We follow U.S. growth through westward expansion from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific.  We end with Reconstruction.
     We examine the Constitution, the Bill of Rights and the rest of the amendments.  We also look at the legacies of the first sixteen presidents.



             History 10th Grade

     We will review the early Native American cultures, European Colonization, colonial times, Revolutionary War, causes leading to the Civil War and the Civil War itself.  We then look at Reconstruction, settling the West, urbanization, and the reform movement. 
     We then get into WWI, the Great Depression, and Roosevelt's New Deal.  Next we get into WWII, the cold war, civil rights movement and the Vietnam War.  We come to a close by looking at the presidencies from Nixon to G. W. Bush.  Along the way we will explore "Liberalism vs. Conservatism," technology, and the war on terrorism.

Stock Market Competition
 
     At the beginning of the year the students choose four or five companies to invest in.  We track their picks every two weeks to see who is doing the best.  We have a prize at the end of the year for those who do the best.  We use the excel program to track our results.
